چکیده
Reason: In the process of investigating an accusation of misconduct in the above manuscript, the Editors have found significant evidence of fraud perpetrated by some of the authors. 1) Dr. Wei Jia Kong’s name was used as the corresponding author without his knowledge or consent. Furthermore, Dr. Cai Pengcheng was unaware of his status as an author of the manuscript. 2) A fake email address for Dr. Kong was constructed and used by the authors to intercept any information that would be sent to the corresponding author. 3) Dr. Zhang Song and Ms. Yang Juhong have modified their accounts of the events several times during the investigation, making it difficult to determine exactly what occurred with respect to the data in question. However, The Editors have determined that Figure 4 of this manuscript is a re-publication of data in Cancer Letters (2007) 253:108-114. The authors have misrepresented their data as being from 2 separate cell lines.

Overexpression of transketolase protein TKTL1 is associated with occurrence and progression in nasopharyngeal carcinoma: a potential therapeutic target in nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
Over 80 years ago, Warburg identified a particular metabolic pathway in carcinomas characterised by the anaerobic degradation of glucose even in the presence of oxygen that leads to the production of large amounts of lactate (known as the Warburg effect). Now, widespread clinical use of positron-emission tomography (PET) has confirmed that there exists enhanced glucose degradation in tumors. Re...
متن کاملTransketolase-like protein 1 (TKTL1) is required for rapid cell growth and full viability of human tumor cells.
Cancer cells display high rates of aerobic glycolysis, a phenomenon known as the Warburg effect. Lactate and pyruvate, the end products of glycolysis, are overproduced by cancer cells even in the presence of oxygen. The pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) allows glucose conversion to ribose for nucleic acid synthesis, glucose degradation to lactate, and regeneration of redox equivalents. The nonoxi...
متن کاملIncreased expression of transketolase-like-1 in papillary thyroid carcinomas smaller than 1.5 cm in diameter is associated with lymph-node metastases.
BACKGROUND Patients with small papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) may have a high incidence of regional lymph-node (LN) metastases at presentation, and these are considered to be an independent risk factor for tumor recurrence. A mutated transketolase transcript (TKTL1) has been found up-regulated in different human malignancies, and strong TKTL1 protein expression has been associated with aggre...
متن کاملExpression of the mutated transketolase TKTL1, a molecular marker in gastric cancer.
The nonoxidative pentose phosphate pathway allows glucose conversion to ribose for DNA or RNA synthesis and glucose degradation to lactate controlled by transketolase enzyme reactions. It has been postulated, that this pathway is of the utmost importance in tumors for the proliferation process. We detected a strong upregulation of the mutated transketolase transcript (TKTL1) in a considerable n...
متن کاملRad51 Expression in Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma and Its Association with Tumor Reduction: A Preliminary Study in Indonesia
Background: Overexpression of Rad51 protein in many tumor cells has been proven to increase radioresistance and can be related to the resistance of chemosensitivity of tumor cells. This preliminary study was conducted to determine the relationship between the Rad51 expression level in nasopharyngeal carcinoma and the response of the treatment based on the measurement o...
